Numerous customer tests in mines have been performed over the past 10 years showing that these HELI Antenna Solutions achieves ranges 3x to 4x to those obtained with a similar gain linear polarised antenna. Some initial tests in a South African coal mine demonstrated a person 1.2 km away from the access point fitted with a HELI-3 circular polarised antenna making perfect VoIP calls using a handheld Wi-Fi phone.

The tunnel antenna is the ideal antenna for 2.4-2.5 GHz wireless applications in tunnels. HELI-3 is a uni-directional antenna whilst the closely related HELI-8 fires in both directions. An intrinsically safe version of this antenna is available with code A-HELI-0003-IS. This antenna gives you a low-cost network infrastructure for current voice and data needs. Future-proof since WiFi means low-cost devices and well-known access for man and machine.
The HELI-4 is a uni-directional antenna that weighs a mere 1.25 kg as that has a gain of about 15 dBi. This antenna operates in the 2 400 – 2 500 MHz range and provides a low cost network infrastructure option for existing voice and data needs.

The robust design of the HELI-5 makes it ideal for a mining environment and it operates from 1710 MHz – 2170 MHz.
HELI-6Uni-directional LTE NB-IoT LoRa Sigfox LTE-M
This high gain LTE Uni-directional circular polarised antenna is specifically designed to meet the growing demand for LTE, LoRa, Sigfox, NB-IoT and LTE and LTE-M in tunnels and underground applications. As sensors are regularly placed underground, reliable and stable communications are important at all times as well as having remote access to various devices on demand. Poynting has intrinsically safe(IS) versions of all HELI-designed antennas (available on request), so this antenna can withstand hazardous areas. The HELI-6 is thus suitable for oil/gas chemical environments where IS equipment is required. Test results revealed the data rate and range achieved with this antenna, was greater than that achieved by linear polarised panel antennas of the same gain. The robust design of the HELI-6 makes it ideal for a mining environment and it operates from 690 MHz – 960 MHz.

HELI-22Bi-directional Dual Band Wi-Fi
The HELI-22 forms part of a series of Mini-HELI antennas. These antennas are only mini in size relative to their bigger brothers, the HELI-3, HELI4 & HELI-8, but offer medium to high gain, which makes these antennas ideal for mining tunnels where IoT/M2M connectivity is deployed and can also be used for coverage into the stopes. The HELI-22 is a set of dual 2.4GHz and 5GHz antennas, radiating in both directions (i.e. bi-directional), which make them ideal for the coverage of both 2.5GHz and 5GHz in mining and other type of tunnels.
