FAQ: My router only has 2 antenna ports, but my antenna has 4 cables. Can I use a splitter to connect them?

No, using a splitter will not improve MIMO performance and may actually make it worse.

MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) relies on multiple independent channels (paths) to transmit and receive data simultaneously. Each channel needs its own connection between the antenna and the router. If your router has only 2 antenna ports, it can only use 2 independent channels, even if the antenna has 4 outputs.

Connecting all 4 antenna cables with a splitter will not create extra channels. Instead, it introduces additional signal loss which can degrade signal quality and reduce overall performance.

In this scenario, it’s better to connect only one antenna pair (2 cables) to match your router’s 2 ports and leave the remaining outputs unused or terminated with 50 Ohm terminators. This ensures optimal performance for your router’s capabilities.
