Mr. Hendrik Smith runs a small business and goes camping every year for two months at Die Eiland, ATKV Spa, near the Kruger National Park in South Africa. This beautiful area has very poor cell signal, making it hard to get internet or Wi-Fi, which he needs to manage his business.
Without internet, he found it difficult to stay in touch with customers and employees while working remotely. His wife also wants reliable connectivity for leisure activities like watching Netflix and staying in touch with friends and family.
Last year, Mr. Smith met another camper who used a POYNTING antenna and modem to get internet connectivity. Before his next camping trip, he visited our offices in Samrand where he met Emilio Goliath who explained exactly what is needed and how to set it up.
As the site had no discernible signal, Emilio suggested 2 x LPDA-92 Booster Antennas used in conjunction with a Huawei B535 router. The B535 is a 4G Router, which means it has MIMO capability and you can connect 2 antennas to the router.Â
He mounted the 2 antennas spaced about half meter apart on a pole next to his tent. The one was mounted vertically and one horizontally to allow for spatial diversity.
Both antennas pointed to a Vodacom tower. He found the best signal by slowly rotating the antennas in 30-degree increments, checking the bars on the router, and then moving the antennas again. Once he rotated through 360 degrees, he points it there where the signal is best (most bars on the router).
The cables of the antennas were led into the tent and connected to the HUAWEI Router. Now he could connect various tablets, laptops, phones and TV screens to the router for excellent reception.

One of his friends, also camping at Eiland, saw how well the setup worked and wanted internet too. Mr. Smith gave him Emilio’s contact information. Even on a Sunday night, Emilio was very helpful and guided Mr. Smith’s friend on what to buy. The friend got the POYNTING equipment the next week and was also very happy with the results.
