Stable 4G Connection at 55km in remote NSW!

Project Info:

  • Customer: Internet Innovations
  • Location: NSW, Australia
  • Distributor: RF Industries
  • RFI (POYNTING) Products:

The Background

Internet Innovations provides comprehensive communications solutions in metro and regional Australia.

They ensure that businesses and farms operate at maximum capacity with no downtime.

Their customers might be remote, but they still expect fast and reliable internet at their farm, house or business.

The Challenge

This farm is in a remote area of New South Wales, Australia – about 55 kms from the nearest mobile tower.

Reliable internet is a requirement for the daily running of this business as well as remote management of machinery and equipment, livestock monitoring and management, crop management and analysis etc.

Joe Prelc, Managing Director of Internet Innovations, knew that he needed a very high quality and high gain booster antenna to get connectivity over distances like this.

The Solution

The RFI LPDA7038-11-0.5NF antenna, supplied by POYNTING Antennas, was the obvious choice. The antenna is a futureproof wideband LTE and Wi-Fi antenna covering 698 – 3800 MHz. It is compatible with 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G technologies.

It is unique in its combination of ultra-wide-band operation with a consistent high-gain performance over the whole band.

It has been successfully used in extreme weather environments in Africa, Europe, and Australia with close to zero failures.

It is ideal for any application using the GSM network (LTE/ HSPA/3G/EDGE/GPRS) and a clear favourite in any area where operators have signal challenges.

The setup:

The following configurations were installed on a 15 m tower at the farm. There are 6 Log Periodic Dipole Array (LPDA) antennas mounted on the pole. The antennas are used in these configurations:

1: A Cel-Fi donor antenna that connects over 55km to the Telstra Donor site with SINR of 12 and RSSI -61dBm!
Direction 150°
Polarisation -45°

2: Cradlepoint 4G, Managed 4G Internet Optus Primary with SINR 19 and RSSI -50dBm and Telstra failover.
Direction 40°
Polarisation MIMO +45°and -45° (2 x Antennas)
3: 4G mobile phone coverage for a cotton field.
Direction 75°
Polarisation +45°

4: 4G mobile phone coverage for a cotton field.
Direction 250°
Polarisation +45°
5: 4G mobile phone coverage for a cotton field.
Direction 220°
Polarisation -45°

The Customer Said:

I have been using the RFI/POYNTING antenna for many years and do not even consider another antenna when connectivity over long distances
is required. You install an LPDA and your customer is happy.
