Short Summary

The ideal candidate will effectively serve as the Financial Manager: Group Reporting’s second-in-charge (2IC) and will be responsible for managing the Poynting Group’s financial reporting requirements, including day-to-day operations, month-end closures, and consolidations. The role will ensure full compliance with all financial, reporting, tax, audit, governance, and related regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic

  • Support Management with input into the company’s business strategy.
  • Assist with activities that support and are aligned to the company’s business strategy.
  • Analyse key financial data and advise management on strategic business planning.

Risk Management

  • Identify and assess risks pertaining to the area of responsibility.
  • Support Management with mitigating plans to manage identified risks.
  • Ensure Financial Management policies and procedures adhere to regulatory standards.

People Focus

  • Support Management with leadership and direction of the department pertaining to the area of responsibility.
  • Provide regular feedback to Management on staff-related matters.
  • Build professional and productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain regular communication with team members to ensure a collaborative work environment.

Financial Management

  • Manage financial targets and objectives;
  • Prepare/assist with preparing annual budgets and hold budget discussions in close co-operation with FM’s.
  • Track annual budgets and forecasts in close co-operation with FM’s
  • Prepare monthly financial reporting (separate and consolidated) in line with IFRS for FM review.
  • Implement and maintain adequate financial (internal) controls and ensure adherence to internal controls closely with the Financial Team.
  • Ensure compliance with all tax and related laws; i.e., Income Tax, Provisional Tax, VAT, PAYE, WCA, etc.
  • Provide inputs on all matters relating to reporting structures.

Payroll / Other

  • Provide support on payroll processing where required.
  • Effectively become backup for the Payroll Administrator.
  • Assist with review of monthly payroll.

Skills & Knowledge

Qualification & Experience

  • Post-Matric Financial Degree (non-negotiable).
  • 5 years’ experience in a financial role.
  • Strong technical financial reporting experience, including consolidations and IFRS.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Navision/BC and MS Office is essential.
  • International exposure, particularly with foreign entities and subsidiaries, is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of SARB and Forex requirements will be an advantage.
  • Experience with intercompany transactions and shared services is beneficial.
  • Solid understanding of South African tax laws and regulations.
